Living the Cream Take 5
Living the Cream is a small business out of Buffalo. The guy is churning up some masterpieces out of his own kitchen. I luckily found him off Instagram due to his love of eating America's finest ice cream. His homemade ice cream has a lot of praise due to the fact he makes everything from scratch.
Take 5 is labeled as "Salted Pretzel ice cream, caramel swirls, no-bake PB-oat cookies, and Chocolate covered pretzels."
The first bite of the pretzel-infused base is spectacular. The base is very smooth, creamy, and has a mild salty flavor to it. There is a small hint of the vanilla-infused base with the dominant pretzel aftertaste. While this is not a flavor you typically see being made in the ice cream industry it leaves the door open for countless possibilities with mix-ins and additions to enhance the saltiness and flavor of an ice cream base.
The caramel swirls are pooling from side to side and top to bottom. The caramel is rich and luscious while the chocolate provides a bold element. The sheer amount of flavor this packs on top of a gooey and runny swirl makes it go hand-in-hand with the premium ice cream. The chocolate-covered pretzels are done in the correct fashion. Heavily coated to prevent any sogginess, and heavily salted. The extra salt makes the mix-ins pop as well as amplifies the base flavor. The no-bake PB oat cookies are fantastic. Very soft, chewy, moist, and have that nutty texture from the oatmeal blended into the base cookie. These are good, but I feel as if the peanut butter flavor from them lacks a touch from this inclusion.
The base, swirls, and inclusions are all great in this experience, but the oat bars could use a bit more peanut butter to my liking. The amount of salt from the inclusions and swirl really helps the base pop. Overall it's a great flavor and one you should grab if on the menu from Living the Cream.
