Living the Cream PB & J
Living the Cream is a small business out of Buffalo. The guy is churning up some masterpieces out of his own kitchen. I luckily found him off Instagram due to his love of eating America's finest ice cream. His homemade ice cream has a lot of praise due to the fact he makes everything from scratch.
PB & J is labeled "Vegan peanut butter ice cream, strawberry pop tarts, yogurt pretzels, and strawberry preserve swirls."
The vegan peanut butter ice cream is similar to real peanut butter out of a jar. When peanut butter meets high-quality ice cream you taste a high buttermilk fat content. The density is very thick as Living the Cream's bases are right up there like Salt & Straw, Caffe Panna, and Clementines. If I were to nitpick the base I would like a little bit more salt to really get this flavor to pop. Due to the fact this was vegan peanut butter, I did not expect it to taste as rich as a regular peanut butter base.
The strawberry pop tart pieces are great. I personally like my pop tarts cold or frozen so these fit perfectly with the base ice cream. The yogurt pretzels have the correct amount of saltiness and melt in your mouth. The yogurt covering is just enough to prevent them from going stale in the ice cream. While they don't provide a lot of flavors the texture is perfect with the chewy pop tarts and gooey strawberry swirl. Christian rolled the dice with a fruity swirl as they can leave an icy trail and lackluster flavor, but he executed this very well. The strawberry swirl is ripe, rich in flavor, and has a luscious aftertaste.
Some people are grape PB&J Fans, but I am always team strawberry. The classic combo of the childhood sandwich meets the perfect snack in a pop tart. Put those together with one of my favorite mix-ins which are coated pretzels are you are cooking with gas. This one gets one of the best grades from Living The Cream to date.
