Living the Cream Chocolate Covered Pretzel
Living the Cream is a small business out of Buffalo. The guy is churning up some masterpieces out of his own kitchen. I luckily found him off Instagram due to his love of eating America's finest ice cream. His homemade ice cream has a lot of praise due to the fact he makes everything from scratch.
Chocolate Covered Pretzel is labeled as " Pretzel ice cream with Guittard Milk Chocolate Stracciatella and chocolate covered pretzels."
The first bite of the pretzel-infused base is spectacular. The base is very smooth, creamy, and has a mild salty flavor to it. There is a small hint of vanilla-infused base with the dominant pretzel aftertaste. While this is not a flavor you typically see being made in the ice cream industry it leaves the door open for countless possibilities with mix-ins and additions to enhance the saltiness and flavor of an ice cream base.
The chocolate-covered pretzels are done in the correct fashion. Heavily coated to prevent any sogginess, and heavily salted. The extra salt makes the mix-ins pop as well as amplifies the base flavor. The guittard Milk Chocolate Stracciatella is a fine sharded chocolate scattered throughout the pint. While it does not offer a whole lot to the pint, it helps enhance the chocolate coating of the pretzels.
If you are a big fan of chocolate covered pretzels this is a well-executed flavor. While this isn't a flavor that goes above and beyond with exotic and unrefined mix-ins it goes to show you Living The Cream can do simple flavors well. Chocolate Covered Preztels are one of my all-time favorite ice cream mix-ins so this one hit the spot.
