Mcconnell's Sweet Cream Caramel Brownie
Mcconnell's is a local, sustainable and organic, from many of the same farms & purveyors we’ve partnered with throughout their 70 years of production.
Mcconnell's thrives off basic and simple ingredients such as milk, cream, eggs, and pure cane sugar. There use no stabilizers, fillers, or preservatives. All of their inclusions are house made and folded into their ice cream bases.
Mcconnell's Sweet Cream Caramel Brownie is labeled as "Luscious swirls of salted caramel, amid heaps of gooey, rich & chocolaty, house-baked brownies, bathed in decadent, indulgent, vanilla-spiked, sweet cream ice cream."
The sweet cream base from Mcconnell's is superb. Mcconnell's sweet cream is luscious, rich, and packed full of flavor and has a premium density that is like no other. Sweet Cream does contain eggs and milk and many brands may not on the market. This provides an extra oomph of density in each and every bite. It is based on milk, Even with a sheer amount of mix-ins, it doesn't phase the quality of the base in each and every bite. While the base is premium it does temper at a mild rate, so if you like your ice cream to melt like butter you will need to let this one sit out a few minutes.
The brownies are soft, gooey, and have a nice chewy texture to them. They are by no means hard, but have an elegant sweetness in the backend of the flavor that goes hand in hand with the base ice cream. I would have liked them to be a little thicker in size and texture, but they were small and scattered throughout the pint in a consistent manner. The caramel swirl is locked and loaded. From top to bottom this is pooled all over the pint. The luscious caramel is thick and provides a syrupy liqueur backend taste. The density and richness it provides leaves a lingering flavor of sweetness to compliment with the base ice cream to make it pop.
This is a simple yet well executed pint from Mcconnell's. I have had a few flavors off their line and each one has been great for grocery ice cream. If you are a brownie and caramel fan this one is worth the scoop. Pints average around $8 in stores and $12 online. Keep an eye out for sales if this is a bit outside of your price range.
