Living the Cream Pretzel S'mores
Living the Cream is a small business out of Buffalo. The guy is churning up some masterpieces out of his own kitchen. I luckily found him off Instagram due to his love of eating America's finest ice cream. His homemade ice cream has a lot of praise due to the fact he makes everything from scratch.
Pretzel S'mores is labeled as "Salted pretzel ice Cream, marshmallow swirls, chocolate covered pretzels, and brown sugar graham crumble."
The first bite of the salted pretzel-infused base is spectacular. The base is very smooth, creamy, and has a strong salty flavor to it. There is a small hint of vanilla-infused with the dominant pretzel aftertaste. For those who are sweet and salty fiends, you will be in your glory. While this is not a flavor you typically see being made in the ice cream industry it leaves the door open for countless possibilities with mix-ins and additions to enhance the saltiness and flavor of an ice cream base.
The brown sugar graham crumble is scattered throughout the pint. The crumble in essence is graham crackers added to brown sugar after boiling butter at a low temperature. The brown sugar provides a strong molasses-type flavor due to the graham addition. The marshmallow swirls are extremely thick, luscious, and have a blistering rich flavor. It was a smart move to do marshmallows as a swirl because mini marshmallows can become rock hard when frozen in ice cream. The chocolate-covered pretzels are done in the correct fashion. Heavily coated to prevent any sogginess, and heavily salted. The extra salt makes the mix-ins pop as well as amplifies the base flavor.
I have been harsh on Living the Cream when he uses marshmallow swirls in the past, but he corrected his quality control and made this one shine. Each element is on point and it congeals together to become one of his best.
