Living the Cream Samoa Pop
Living the Cream is a small business out of Buffalo. The guy is churning up some masterpieces out of his own kitchen. I luckily found him off Instagram due to his love of eating America's finest ice cream. His homemade ice cream has a lot of praise due to the fact he makes everything from scratch.
Samoa Pop is labeled as "Coconut ice cream, Guittard chocolate milk chocolate stracciatella, Chenezs popcorn caramel corn, and caramel swirls."
Coconut is a double edge sword when it comes to flavor. Some people love it while others don’t care for it. Living the Cream found a way to make this base enjoyable even for myself who is not a Coconut fan. The coconut ice cream is incredibly dense, creamy, and provides the correct amount of nuttiness. The base provides the accepted ratio of sweetness to allow the toasted flavor to shine.
The Guittard milk chocolate stracciatella has a bitter and rich enhancement to the base that is scattered into pieces among the pint. The Chenezs popcorn caramel corn is a collaboration with a local company in Buffalo. The popcorn pieces got soggy, but provide a subtle crunchy and chewy compliment that packs a deep caramel flavor. You can taste the molasses syrup and deep caramel notes glazed on the buttery popcorn. The caramel is salty, sweet, and thick. While it is not as thick as Living the Cream's marshmallow swirl its flavor pairs well with the coconut ice cream.
Overall this is a good flavor. It is not my cup of tea as I am not a huge coconut fan, but the base is great. The caramel swirls are the highlight of the pint without a doubt. The chocolate is average as it does not add a whole lot to the big picture. Caramel corn is tricky to add to ice cream due to the crunch it provides. It is on the soggy side. I figured it would be very hard, but it was the exact opposite. A good pint, but can use some work.
