Living the Cream Vegan Strawberry Pop Tart
Living the Cream is a small business out of Buffalo. The guy is churning up some masterpieces out of his own kitchen. I luckily found him off Instagram due to his love of eating America's finest ice cream. His homemade ice cream has a lot of praise due to the fact he makes everything from scratch.
Vegan Strawberry Pop-Tart is labeled as "Vegan agave Roasted Strawberry ice cream, rainbow sprinkles, strawberry pop tart pieces, and homemade shortbread crumbles."
The richness and ripeness of the vegan agave roasted strawberry are present from the very first bite. The ripe base provides a sweet flavoring that remains mild and mellow as the ice cream tempers. The downside to this strawberry ice cream doesn’t pack a punch, it lacks the density needed to truly give you a great base ice cream experience. Fruity flavors are very hard to execute but Living the Cream did a good job, but have room for improvement.
Sprinkles are simply for show. They don't provide a whole lot of flavor to the pint besides a small crunch. The strawberry pop tart pieces are great. I personally like my pop tarts cold or frozen so these fit perfectly with the base ice cream. The frosting and filling improve what the base did not provide. The homemade shortbread crumbles are similar to the graham crumble. This has been seen in quite a few pints. The homemade shortbread is buttery, soft, moist, and provides a nice chewy compliment with the pop tarts. The pieces of shortbread are not small by any means and are extremely consistent from top to bottom.
I feel this pint would have been better with a strawberry jam swirl and vanilla bean base. The swirl would complement the filling of the pop tarts, while the vanilla bean would be reminiscent of the frosting. Fruity flavors are a roll of the dice. This was average, but there are tweaks that could make it great.
Grade: C
