Caffe Panna Strong Rope
CaffePanna's goal is to bring that same welcoming spirit and all-day accessibility to the heart of New York City, with an emphasis on delicious ice cream that marries elements of both Italian and American traditions.
Strong Rope is labeled as "Story Time Stout ice cream with housemade pecan pie crust and filling, plus a cocoa caramel swirl"
When I first tasted this I picked up a booze presence, but the molasses really was the dominating flavor. The molasses was rich, pure, and has brown sugar added to it. The stout was such an aftertaste, which will suit those who are not drinkers. There is just enough of the stout to get that special element, but don't be scared even if you are not a drinker. This is still a good base, but not my preference.
The real star of the is the pecan pie chunks. These are not just pieces of pie crusts, these are legit chunks. Think about taking a pecan pie and chopping it up and then mixing it into a frozen dessert. How Hallie can continue to put mix-ins of good quality and keep them great even when frozen in ice cream is unreal. You get hints of molasses that are laced throughout a pecan pie. The cocoa caramel swirl is incredibly unique. I am a huge fan of the caramel swirl like I found in Pistachio Explosion but this provides a dense cocoa aftertaste. The cocoa isn't bitter due to the fact the luscious inclusion from the caramel overpowers it. When the hybrid flavors meet the ice cream base everything congeals together to make a good combination.
If you are scared of the boozy base, don't be, and this is coming from someone who has not had a drink in 11 years. The pecan pie chunks and swirls really carry this pint. I can see the stout base being a make or break for some, but once you dig into this pint it grows on you
