Caffe Panna Mango Sticky Rice
CaffePanna's goal is to bring that same welcoming spirit and all-day accessibility to the heart of New York City, with an emphasis on delicious ice cream that marries elements of both Italian and American traditions.
Mango Sticky Rice is labeled as "Italian black rice ice cream with sticky black rice pudding swirl and mango swirl"
I have never had Italian black rice before, but you put anything in ice cream and I will try it. Black rice is a variety of rice from Italy that is characterized by its black, charcoal, and rust-colored grains. The flavor provides a distinctive nutty aftertaste. One thing I did pick up is the creamy and dense base has a gummy chew to the rice inclusion. For those who like sticky rice, consider this an alternative but with a mild element addition.
Not only are you getting the black rice in the base, but it ripples from top to bottom in a consistent black rice pudding swirl. The swirl enhances a thick and smooth earthly flavor. The other addition in this pint is a mango swirl. Sticky rice with mango is a common rice dish. Mangos, in general, are hard and fibrous that are similar to tart limes. I found this swirl to have a tropical floral taste with a backend of citrus zest.
Overall Caffe Panna thinks outside the box and makes intriguing flavors. I can see this as one of those which is a hit or a miss. Personally, this was a one and done situation as I did not get a whole lot of enjoyment out of it. While the base and mix-ins are unrefined nothing in this pint draws me back a repeat purchase.
