Ben & Jerry's Glampfire Trail Mix
Ben & Jerry's Glampfire Trail Mix is labeled as "Chocolate Ice Cream with Crunchy Pretzel Swirls, Marshmallow Swirls & Fudge Covered Almonds". At first glance I had some low hopes because the chocolate base from Ben & Jerry's is not their best. This flavor came out in 2018 as a limited edition pint only at Target. After going away for quite some time it came back in 2019, and now I can find an abundance. The Pretzel swirls have been seen in pints such as Candy Bar Pie, which is one of their best offerings. This is the 3rd time I have had this pint, but I have not had it in quite some time due to the lack of pretzel swirls.
When popping the lid it is always pleasing to see swirls, mix-ins, and a fine looking base. I will start off by saying I have never enjoyed the chocolate base by itself from Ben & Jerry's. From all of their original flavors such as: S'mores, Chocolate Fudge Brownie, and Phish Food it just never caught my attention. The ice cream base came off dull and lacking flavor. For some reason Glampfire's base chocolate is impressive, and dare I say better? While this is an improvement, this is not as good as their chocolate malt base found in Chocolate Shake-It Truffles. Why Ben & Jerry's does not use the milk chocolate base found in Peanut Butter World more often is still a question to me as it is stellar.
Ben & Jerry's does not skimp on the marshmallow swirl. As it lingers on the surface it soon propels into massive pools as you work your way down the pint. The overall taste of the marshmallow is dense with an everlasting richness that pairs well with the chocolate base. The pretzel swirl on the other hand was a smaller element I was hoping would shine through. I tasted small vibes of the sweet and salty inclusion from the pretzel swirl, but it was not enough to get a full grasp on its potential like you would experience in Candy Bar Pie. When two swirls are in conjunction one will overpower the other creating an unequal balance of consistency. The chocolate covered almonds are moderate in size, much larger then the fudge flakes you see in the majority of Ben & Jerry's pints. The crunchiness enhances the slim pretzel swirl, and provides a dark chocolate coating to intensify the chocolate base.
Ben & Jerry's has one of the best marshmallow swirls in the game. Nearly every pint I have ever scooped with a marshmallow swirl never lacks in consistency. Glampfire Trail Mix is a rocky road flavor in disguise. Do not let the name fool you, or the regular chocolate base turn you away. I was still able to grab a few pints from my local target, and I highly suggest always have one on hand as this target exclusive is awesome.
