The Cheesecake Factory Original
The Cheesecake Factory Original is labeled as "Premium Cheesecake Ice Cream with a signature cream cheese blend, sour cream, and graham swirls". Cheesecake Factory ice cream debuted in February 2020 and has since put out 7 total flavors. I wanted to get my hands on the original before venturing into the others on the line. I am a massive fan of the cheesecake they offer at their restaurant, so it will be interesting to see their spin-off into an ice cream novelty. The caloric content is lower on the pints compared to an actual slice of cheesecake, but that doesn't mean it may be a downgrade. We will soon find out.
The premium cheesecake ice cream took me by surprise. Usually when companies make branded ice cream it can be hit or miss, but this on the other hand is true to its name. The base is creamy, rich, but has a hint of airiness. I would state this base is sweet and slightly tart, but more sweet than tart. The tanginess of the cheesecake is present, which is usually lacking from most brand name ice creams. The last piece to the puzzle is the subtle sour flavor that lingers from the sour cream inclusion.
The real star of the show is the graham swirls. While these do not swirl around the pint they are thick, crunchy, and consistent chunks from top to bottom. The second you bite into it you get the nostalgia of eating real cheesecake graham cracker crust. Imagine crumbling up a bunch of graham crackers while infusing them into an ice cream swirl, and that is exactly what you get. The flavoring again is very straight forward with minor hints of butter, cinnamon, and sugar.
At first I was hesitant upon picking up any of these flavors, but I went into this with an open mind. The base is accurate, and the swirls are thick. The execution and simplicity of both the ice cream and the graham inclusion leaves you with a pleasurable experience. Overall there is room for improvement, but non the less it is worth picking for anyone who enjoys cheesecake.
