Ben & Jerry's Oat of This Swirled
Ben & Jerry's Oat of This Swirled is labeled as "Buttery Brown Sugar Ice Cream with Fudge Flakes & Oatmeal Cinnamon Cookie Swirls". Fudge flakes are a very common occurrence with Ben & Jerry's, but the buttery brown sugar ice cream and oatmeal cinnamon cookie swirls are not. One of my all-time favorites Oatmeal Cookie Chunk was sent the graveyard in 2012. Hopefully, the cookie swirl will bring back glorious memories of what was once a favorite of mine from the brand.
The Buttery Brown Sugar ice cream base is unique, but it has been seen before in the Target exclusive "Blondie Ambition". The flavor provides strong vanilla bean, but you get notes of a subtle buttery undertone and a mere aftertaste of brown sugar. I personally would have liked both to be a lot stronger. If anything this tasted like a glorified vanilla bean and oatmeal combination. While it's not a bad thing, it is a bit misleading to what it says on the front of the pint.
When it comes to Ben & Jerry's the swirl can be a make or break situation on the final outcome of how good a pint is. The fudge flakes are a Ben & Jerry's staple. While they do not provide a whole lot of flavor they do give you a bitter cocoa flavor that compliments the oatmeal tasting base well. The swirls found in this experience provides an enhancing texture with a gritty and bold cinnamon oatmeal flavor. I found it slivered throughout the pint, and then there would be large chunks from time to time. When you struck the lump of cinnamon cookies it tasted exactly like no-bake chocolate chip oatmeal cookies.
While this is no Oatmeal Cookie Chunk Ben & Jerry's did a good job on trying to replicate it in a different fashion. The base is subtle in flavor, but the thick swirl helps emulate mini no-bake chocolate chip cookies submerged in ice cream. I slept on this flavor for quite some time, and now I am glad I decided to give it a chance.
