Ben & Jerry's Pumpkin Cheesecake
Ben & Jerry's Pumpkin Cheesecake is labeled as "Pumpkin Cheesecake Ice Cream with a Graham Cracker Swirl." I have scooped this a few times in the past, but it has been so long, so I figured why not give it another shot. If you know me, my luck with ice cream is bottom of the barrel as I have yet to find a graham cracker swirl in the multiple times I have come across this flavor. Let us see if I have any better luck to start the fall season and the influx of basic B ice cream!
Ben & Jerry's Pumpkin Cheesecake Ice Cream is not bad, but there is room for improvement. As I dug into the orange ice cream the texture is smooth, creamy, and decadent but not too dense. It is not an over the top pumpkin flavor, but provides enough nutmeg and cinnamon to keep you interested. The cream cheese is added to compliment the pumpkin base, which is where the cheesecake portion shines. There is a pronounced tang to this ice cream, but with how deep the pumpkin flavor is there is still a good balance to both flavors without one overpowering the other.
You can't have Pumpkin Pie or Pumpkin Cheesecake without a great graham cracker base right!? That is why the brand decided to add a graham cracker swirl to amplify the overall experience. I am sad to say this is yet another time I got burned with absolutely no swirl. No matter how far I dug all the way to the bottom of the pint I could not find a single trace of graham.
If you were to give me a slice of pumpkin cheesecake and tell me to just eat the center without the crust, Ben & Jerry's did a good job on replicating that. Not only is the ice cream really easy to eat, but it has a lighter density of balanced flavors to keep you coming back for more. Without a secondary mix-in or other inclusions you are stuck with a base, and that can get boring as you work your way down the pint. This flavor could use a lot more graham, and a much thicker swirl to improve this limited edition autumn treat.
