7-Select Go! Yum Pumpkin Pie Ice Cream is labeled as "Pumpkin ice cream with cinnamon graham ribbon and pumpkin pie pieces." If you did not know 7/11 is a sleeper when it comes to ice cream. Not only is their S'mores one of the best in the game, but they also have some hidden gems that are worth checking out. Will this limited edition fall flavor be another stellar addition to their lineup!?
The pumpkin pie ice cream has a diluted flavor to the main base. While the pumpkin is present is it in the background of the big picture. While it is not listed the pumpkin pie spices truly shine in the ice cream as the nutmeg, cinnamon, and clove hit your taste buds in the aftertaste. The smooth and creamy texture is a nice kick to the base which reminds you of a pumpkin puree you can buy at a local grocery store. 7/11's ice cream is not a premium brand since it comes from a gas station. The density will not match a company like Handel's and Jeni's, but still gives you a solid flavor if you truly enjoy pumpkin.
The cinnamon graham ribbon and pumpkin pie pieces are a nice addition to complement the base. Just like in S'mores the swirls are the key aspect of this pint that dominates the flavor and brings it to life. The ribbon is a small strand that swirls from the very top and is consistent to the bottom in each and every bite. The grittiness of the cinnamon swirl reminds me of Turkey Hill's Pumpkin Pie just not as thick. I did pick up a few thick chunks of swirl which also included bits of the pumpkin pie pieces. While scarce the pie pieces have a buttery undertone and a caramelized crunch. They bring a different taste to the base and ribbon which enhances the overall experience.
7/11 is a gas station you would never think would produce quality ice cream. Given the caloric allotment (240) and the number of mix-ins, this is a good pumpkin pint. While it falls down my list of all-time favorites it is definitely something I would suggest picking up if you remotely like anything pumpkin. Take note if a gas station can make a decent ice cream, any major company should be able to do the same!
