Clementine's Gooey Butter Cake
Clementine's Gooey Butter Cake is labeled as "Tangy cream cheese, butter, & chunks of Gooey Butter Cake." I have had my fair share of great cream cheese bases over the years. Given the first time I had this flavor, it blew me away. I wanted to try it again because Park Ave does not make the Gooey Butter Cake for Clementine's anymore. Can Clementines improve the best butter cake ice cream on the market?
The Tangy Cream Cheese & Butter base is exactly what you would expect from Clementine's Creamery. The sheer density and creaminess of this ice cream I can not rave enough about. With its texture similar to custard the flavoring of the cream cheese surpasses New Orleans Ice Cream Company Creole Cream Cheese. The buttery element on top of the cream cheese flavor is so rich and pure that is leaves you digging for seconds.
The Gooey Butter Cake is exactly as you would expect. The butter cake is of flavor, packed with a luscious aftertaste. The texture of the mix-ins are very soft, moist, and provide the perfect chewiness to compliment the thick base. It is amazing at how fresh this mix in can be even when frozen in ice cream. With how soft it was, I thought I just got a fresh slice of this from a local bakery. The sugary aftertaste puts the icing on the cake (pun intended). The solidity of the cream cheese and the sweetness of the butter cake give you the perfect duo of flavors.
Clementine's took a great flavor and used housemade butter cake to improve it. While this may be a basic flavor on Clementine's lineup, it is executed to perfection. The cream cheese base the best on the market, and the butter cake also cannot be touched. Jeni's and Ample Hills make a great product, but Clementine's is the best butter cake ice cream on the market.
