Handel's Chocolate Peanut Butter Brownie
Handel's Chocolate Peanut Butter Brownie is labeled as " Chocolate Ice Cream with a peanut butter swirl, and brownie chunks." Handel's has quite a selection of chocolate and peanut butter flavors on their ice cream line. What distinguishes them is the variety of bases and mix-ins to allow for such a deviation to their consumers. Since chocolate and peanut butter are a match made in heaven it only makes sense to give back to what American's love most.
Handel's Chocolate ice cream is middle of the road. It is not as bland as Ben & Jerry's, but it does not rival the king of chocolate bases being the original Jeni's. The milk chocolate is mild, but gives you enough flavor to keep you interested during your experience. The ice cream is dense, and has a great thick texture to it, but lacks the amount of flavor to make it pop.
The peanut butter swirl is identical what I found in my experience with Snix and Twixter. It slivers it way from top to bottom, and provides the creamy and salty flavor of true peanut butter from a jar. If you are lucky enough to watch the workers churn this flavor you can see them spooning peanut butter from a jar into the ice cream base. The brownie chunks make up for the lacking size of the swirl. I thought Greyston bakery made fantastic brownies (Ben & Jerry's), but Handel's homemade are a notch above. The brownies and thick, chewy, and have a dense milk chocolate flavor. The sheer size of them and how soft they stand in a frozen ice cream is incredible. The flavoring of the brownies helps improve your experience of the base ice cream.
Handel's provides yet again how they can take a simple flavor with three elements and craft a signature flavor. Chocolate Peanut Butter Brownie is good, but can be enhanced with a thicker swirl and a richer base. Beggars cannot be choosers but this has room for improvement.
