Handel's Spouse Like a House
Handel's Spouse Like a House is "Vanilla ice cream with Chocolate Coated Peanut Butter filled pretzels." When you think of peanut butter filled pretzels the words "Chubby Hubby" may come to mind. The only difference is Handel's does not contain swirls just the solo mix-in. Given the quality of Handel's homemade mix-ins this could be a rival to one of Ben & Jerry's greats.
The Vanilla base is very similar to Graeter’s as it provides a lingering luscious aftertaste. The extra hint of sugar on top of a vanilla bean flavor really sets off the ice cream for a welcoming first spoonful. Since vanilla ice cream is very saturated on the market you have to put a twist on it to make it stand out. The density and richness of the ice cream make way for a worthwhile experience especially when you strike gold on the peanut butter filled pretzel mix-ins.
The peanut butter filled pretzels offered in Spouse like a house are delicious. As you bite into them, you get the salty crunch and the rich peanut butter cream filling. It is not sweet peanut butter (like a buckeye), but creamy and dense peanut butter. It brought me back to my childhood days of spooning peanut butter of the jar. The savory and salty combination of the peanut butter and pretzels make a great match enhanced with a milk chocolate coating.
Overall this flavor is a win from start to finish. If you enjoy peanut butter filled pretzels this pint is a must. Chubby Hubby gets the upper hand due to the peanut butter swirl inclusion. Although the quality of Handel's pretzels makes this a contender. it is not often you see PB filled pretzels as a mix-in, let alone coated in chocolate. If you are making a trip to Handel's include this in a pint to go, or a 4 scoop sampler.
