Handel's Blueberry Cobbler
Handel's Blueberry Cobbler is labeled as "Vanilla ice cream, blueberry ripples, and graham cracker sugar cookie pieces." This is a LE (Limited Edition) flavor that is hit or miss on grabbing. I luckily called ahead and had them put this aside for me before it went away. I grabbed this before for a friend in Buffalo and he raved over it, so I had to grab one for myself.
The vanilla ice cream used in Handel's bases is made in house from scratch. The quality of it is very close to Graeter's, but not as dense. The vanilla flavor shines but the best aspect is the sweet and luscious aftertaste it does provide. The ice cream resembles a 50/50 mix between soft serve and dense premium ice cream in texture. After letting the pint temper for 5 minutes you are basically cutting butter with how smooth and creamy it is.
While the vanilla ice cream is awesome the mix-ins on this flavor really make it shine. The swirls from Handel’s continue to amaze me. Not only is the consistency on point, but also the flavor they encompass blows my mind. The blueberry sauce is made in house and you can tell the second you strike it in your experience. Not only does it pack an everlasting luscious flavor the base already provides, but the density of the flavor is divine. When you factor in how sweet the base and swirl are the graham cracker sugar cookie pieces gives this the final piece to the puzzle. These chunky pieces provide a crunchy texture like a crushed up graham cracker piecrust.
Each aspect of this experience was on point. Handel’s vanilla is incredibly versatile as they use it in a lot of flavors for a good reason. With house made mix-ins and swirls the quality of the ingredients really makes Handel’s a sleeper on the ice cream market. I am not a huge fruity guy but this one was a sleeper.
