Little G's Bangin' Baklava
Little G's Bangin' Baklava is labeled as "honey ice cream with baklava chunks, candied pecans, roasted pistachios, and honey caramel swirl." It is not everyday companies make a Baklava flavored ice cream, or a honey ice cream in general. Honey is usually an ingredient that doesn't hold very well in a frozen state. When I sampled the product out of the dry ice it was very firm and held up well. Now after sitting in my freezer lets revisit this flavor.
The honey ice cream is indeed pure and very true to its name. Think about going to a bee farm and buying fresh honey from a market. The richness of the flavor was on point. The density of little G's ice cream was good, but there is a problem when you use a lot of honey in ice cream it melts fast, and by fast I mean in minutes. While the ice cream base tasted good, it doesn't last very long at all.
For the mix-ins my swirl was the entire bottom half of the pint. Others had this happen to theirs as well which was not evenly distributed or consistent from top to bottom. My pint did not have a lot of candied pecans or roasted pistachios, but her candied pecans are her best nut mix-in. They provide a nice cinnamon sugar aftertaste and are abundant in size. The baklava chunks were easily the star of the show as they packed incredible flavor. The outside of the baklava had a thin layer and the inside enhanced the nut mix-ins and honey ice cream base. Baklava is a dessert layered with nuts and honey it only made sense to compliment the base and mix-ins to the main attribute in this flavor.
Overall this flavor had lots of potential, but with it melting in minutes I could not enjoy this without it turning into soup. This would of easily been the sleeper pint offered in the summer flavors, but nobody likes ice cream to melt in the blink of an eye. The baklava chunks were one of the best mix-ins Grace has ever used. The swirl was absolutely killer in flavor, but again it just melted away as fast as the ice cream did which was a real turnoff.
