Graeter's S'mores
Graeter's S'mores is labeled as "Graham Cracker ice cream, with signature chocolate chips, and Marshmallows". This limited edition flavor sold out in under one week when it launched on 4th of July in 2016. Luckily shortly after this was gone a scoop shop opened up in Pittsburgh. Anything that involves signature chocolate chips from Graeter's you already know packs thick, tight, and solid mix-ins. This was one not to skip, so I had to re-visit this!
First bite the Graham Cracker ice cream of Graeter's it is everything you would imagine it to be. The ice cream is rich, bold, and packs a subtle cinnamon flavoring in the aftertaste. Since Graeter's is not known to use graham cracker as a base this was truly unique. In 2016 they used a marshmallow base for S'mores, but this was a much better upgrade. Every single portion of the graham cracker was pure, and much better then Gelato Fiasco and 7/11 for a S'mores base.
The signature chocolate chips were back and as good as ever in this flavor. In 2016 they were smaller then what I did experience in this upgraded version. The density & size were both larger then what was given in the previous year which was another upgrade just like the base. The mini marshmallows were nice. At first I thought they may be rock hard, but that is not the case. They were soft, moist, and had a luscious aftertaste to them. It almost reminded me of the Gelato Fiasco marshmallows with how they melted in your mouth. Job well done Graeter's.
Graeter's took a simple summer dessert and mixed it very well into ice cream. Graeter's tried to find a happy medium between all three pieces to the puzzle and did a great job. The graham cracker base was a great change from 2016 and it paid off. There was nothing bad to say about the chocolate chips or marshmallows as Graeter's improved on the past. Easily my #5 flavor all-time from Graeters after the changes were made.
