Little G's Ice Cream Gingerbread Man
Little G's Ice Cream Gingerbread Man is labeled as "Brown sugar cinnamon ice cream with gingerbread cookie pieces & Cream cheese frosting swirl"
My luck with swirls has been hit or miss on the Little G line, but when I have found them I have struck gold. I really enjoy brown sugar based things, so lets see how this flavor is.
The brown sugar cinnamon ice cream is interesting. It is not super strong, but its subtle enough to really creep up on you. At first bite you get hints of the cinnamon sugar flavor that is then proceeded with brown sugar. While both elements go hand in hand together the amount of flavoring from both is perfect to compliment each other. Neither aspect outweighs each other to find the perfect balance. I thought this was unique and a great upgrade from the regular vanilla bean base found in a lot of Little G pints. I would love to see this again in other flavors.
The gingerbread cookie pieces were incredible. right from the top I had a huge chunk that was the size of Graeter's chocolate chips. The further I dug down the consistent mix-ins got bigger and bigger. The chunks easily got to over 1" in diameter. Not only are they massive, but each bite is chewy, rich, and have a molasses aftertaste to them. The only downside was the cream cheese swirl. I do not know if it got lost in the base, or was hard to recognize by how light the base was, but I never found a dominant white swirl in this pint. It almost reminded me of pecan sticky buns with the lack of cream cheese swirl. I have found that I either get a massive swirl, or I get next to nothing for my swirls.
With a neat base, and tons of gingerbread cookie pieces both were huge aspects of making this a good flavor. The lack of swirl continues to worry me because I have had it show up in multiple pints. While it may be hard to see or find I am thinking it just meshed into the base. The amount of brown sugar, cinnamon, and molasses throughout the cookies and base gave this one a unique twist to the Little G lineup. I hope Grace continues to get innovative with unique bases becuase they were fantastic. This is a good pint, but with the lack of swirl it really hurts the overall grade.
