Little G's Coffee Toffee Caramel
Little G's Coffee Toffee Caramel is labeled as "Coffee Ice Cream with a salted caramel swirl & Chocolate covered toffee pieces". If you know me I am a diehard coffee fan. I have had some great coffee bases in the past (jeni's and Salt & Straw and New Orleans Ice Cream Co). First I want to see how this stacks up, and how dense the coffee flavor is. Being a light roast guy the color looks to be right up my alley. Swirls and Mix-ins seem to be graces forte, so lets see how this one stacks up off the original line.
After digging into my first few bites of just the surface this Coffee ice cream is to die for. This is a true light roast coffee fan's dream come true. You get the taste of a cold brewed light roast coffee that is identical to going to your favorite coffee shop. Hands down if you ask me one of the best coffee bases on the market next to New Orleans Ice Cream Company (my 2nd favorite with Cafe Au Lait & Beignets). How grace laced the coffee flavor into this pint so strong and just right is incredible. I am a huge fan just off the base alone. While the base did temper fast like Snack Attack & Chocolate peanut butter cup that is a slight downgrade.
The toffee pieces were killer. Not only do they give a nice crunch, they have a very nice salty aftertaste and milk chocolate coating. The milk chocolate coating is very rich, and has a Hershey chocolate bar aftertaste. The second you bite into them they are dense and pack a bold flavor. I really struck gold once I hit about half way through my pint and started to dig into the caramel swirl. While it has not been the biggest swirl I have had (Choc PB was thicker and richer) the caramel flavor is really sweet. The sweetness and saltiness of the mix-ins give it a great one two punch. The swirl was lackluster in amount, I had a few bites of it and that was it, I was really hoping for more. My favorite caramel swirl would still have to be 2nd Street's Kopper Kettle Caramel.
Overall this pint was good. It took three simple basic elements in coffee, toffee, and caramel and threw them all together with high quality fashion. First off this base is good especially if you love cold brew or lighter coffee base. I am just nit picky and like thicker and denser ice cream that does not melt as fast which the first couple flavors of Little G's has. The Caramel swirl did not hit until about half way through the pint but had a ton of flavor and was very rich I just wish there was more of it. The toffee pieces provided a great crunchy element to a flavorful pint. Overall a very good offering especially if you enjoy coffee as much as me, but the mix-ins and swirl were no where near the other pints I have ran across on her lineup.
