Lake Effect Salty Caramel Twist
Lake Effect Salty Caramel Twist is labeled as "Salty Caramel Ice Cream and blended it with chocolate covered pretzels, chunks of milk chocolate, and a fudge swirl". Lake Effect is known for their salted caramel ice cream and is one of their top flavors. Throw in some of my favorite mix-ins (Chocolate covered pretzels) and a nice fudge swirl and milk chocolate consider me sold. Let us see how good this limited edition flavor was from Buffalo.
Upon popping the lid it seems like a fine salted caramel base, and there are virtual signs of the mix-ins which is always good to see. Lake Effect hand packs every single pint in house, and fills them right to the brim. First the base the salted caramel is a big seller for a reason, and I soon figured out why. The richness of the salted caramel resembles Ghirardelli sea salt caramel chocolate square's filling. The pure and rich caramel is so luscious and packs an intense flavor. While the ice cream is dense, the sweetness of the salted caramel shines and provides a premium ice cream.
Next up is the mix-ins. Each pint I have had has been pretty consistent from top to bottom. This one was another example that left me satisfied in each and every bite. The swirls seem to fade as they run down the pint, but the amount of covered pretzels and milk chocolate were found in every other spoonful. The milk chocolate is not super rich like a Graeter's chocolate chunk, but has a hershey chocolate bar taste to it. The chocolate covered pretzels had a great salty kick that matched well with the dense sweet salted caramel base. The sweet & Salty combo shined, and the fudge swirl packed a deep flavor that gave this a killer 1-2 punch.
I can't complain, my experience with Lake Effect has been pretty good and this was another great flavor. I heard some of their other limited edition flavors are even better then the ones I have tried, so I will have to give this company another go in the future. The only small gripe I had would be a larger swirl, as the mix-ins were good. The base was superb, and led the way for a great pint and pleasant experience.
