Talenti Peanut Butter Pretzel
Talenti Peanut Butter Pretzel is labeled as: "peanut butter gelato with a peanut butter swirl, and chocolate covered pretzel balls". Talenti has had some solid pints and their Chocolate Peanut Butter cup one is no exception. After a very high review on that flavor, and releasing a new peanut butter flavor I am eager to see how it stacks up on the lineup. Still nothing has topped Sea Salt Caramel as my favorite with Almond Butter Chocolate Chunk coming in close behind and Mascarpone being a 3rd.
After scooping my first bite Talenti really upped their peanut butter base game in this offering. The first few bites had me thinking of a peanut butter sugar as the base. It tasted like eating the middle of a buckeye candy. Talenti made a perfect 50/50 ratio of a creamy sweet peanut butter with a matching sugary compliment. Job well done on this aspect as the base alone is worth scooping itself.
The peanut butter swirl was scattered throughout the pint. The swirl was more along the lines of small chunks randomly placed around the gelato. While some of the other flavors have stronger swirls this one needed more work. The peanut butter is thicker and dense in flavor which goes hand in hand with the sugary peanut butter base. I had a total of two chocolate covered pretzel balls. The texture was crunchy and packed a dark chocolate flavor with a salty aftertaste from the pretzel.
All in all this one had some high points and low points. Right away the high point is the base. Take your favorite peanut butter and add a sweet and sugary addition to it and that is exactly what you get. The creaminess of the gelato has it melting in your mouth every single bite. The downside was the swirl and mix-ins. Looking at the pint you can see chunks of peanut butter, but that is all I got. The same is said with the chocolate covered pretzel balls. Talenti can either strike gold or be a swing and a miss when it comes to mix-ins. They need to improve their consistency of mix-ins like Ample Hills from top to bottom. Overall a good flavor, just lacked the mix-ins.
