Ben & Jerry's Brewed To Matter
Brewed to Matter is held at Target due to being an exclusive Ben & Jerry Flavor. “Brewed to Matter” is described as “Coffee Ice Cream with Fudge Chunks & a Brownie Batter Swirl”. On paper it sounds good, and after my last go around with Coffee Coffee Buzz Buzz I had high hopes for this flavor. I am a big coffee fan, and Ben & Jerry's have stepped up their mix-in game lately, so I am expecting huge fudge chunks, and a decent swirl to compliment the pint. Lets find out what this target exclusive has to offer.
When I took my first bite I was immediately presented with Ben & Jerry's fine coffee flavor. When you think of Coffee Ice Cream Ben & Jerry's provides a smooth java like taste with a small aftertaste that lingers on your tongue. The flavor of the coffee ice cream reminded me of a medium/blonde type roast you would buy. While it is rich in flavor it is not dense enough to be compared to a bold roast, nor is it light enough to be compared to a mild roast. There is enough coffee flavor to attract those who are coffee lovers to keep digging deeper! If you are not a coffee fan this may turn you away as coffee can be hit or miss.
Now what do the fudge chunks and brownie batter swirl have to offer in this pint? The Fudge chunks reminded me of small hershey chocolate bars you can buy in the grocery store. These fudge chunks were nearly 1/2"-3/4" inch in size and had a thick texture to them. While not the softest fudge piece I have ever had, the had a bit of a crunch to them as you bit into them on top of the soft coffee ice cream. The Brownie Batter swirl on the other hand was a bit of a letdown. The swirl was present throughout the pint and around the fudge chunks, but was thin in texture. The Brownie Batter flavor description may be a far stretch as the density of the chocolate in the swirl was not rich enough to resemble a brownie.
Overall as a coffee fan I enjoy the Ben & Jerry base. Coffee Coffee buzz buzz was a good pint, and I wish Ben & Jerry would utilize the coffee base more often in their lineup. The medium based coffee flavor was strong and provided a nice aftertaste from first bite to last. the Fudge Chunks were massive in size, and were not shy of the thickness or texture in each bite. The brownie batter swirl on the other hand I had higher hopes for in thickness and flavor. While this is a step up from Coffee Coffee buzz buzz with the density of the mix-ins (especially the fudge chunks), the swirl could be upgraded to make this a better offering.
