New Orleans Ice Cream Co. Mint Chocolate Cookie
Let me first off state that I am not the biggest mint fan in the world, but after giving this a scoop I was shocked at how well NO did in flavoring this ice cream. Mint Chocolate Cookie is labeled as "Mint Chocolate Cookie & Chocolate Flakes crackle through our Mint Ice Cream". After reading the description the first thing that shot into my head was B&J Mint Chocolate Cookie and how this would compare.
What is also cool before getting into the review is that New Orleans Ice Cream Company also takes a portion of each purchase and directs it to a foundation. A Small token goes to the Make It Right Foundation which is using green building techniques to help rebuild the New Orleans Lower 9th Ward.
Before even lifting the lid the aroma of mint is present in the air which is a great first impression. Upon lifting the lid you are presented with a very fine and light looking mint base (B&J was darker in green). The first bite was overwhelming to say the least. The Mint buttercream flavoring is very rich, and reminds me instantly of a thin mint cookie. New Orleans also threw in a nice curveball with thick crunchy chocolate bits which were a fantastic compliment to the base they provided. As I dug deeper I also found a small swirl which provided an extra sugary luscious kick to the flavor.
Overall this is a mint lovers dream! The initial taste of the base had your mind jumping to thin mint. When dig into the crunchy cookie bits that are provided you get the perfect replicate of the outside of a thin mint cookie. The Cookie pieces are present from the top of the pint and enhance as you move down the pint to full pieces of cookies (think Graeters Cookies and Cream in size). The small additional of a minty swirl that provides a richer, denser, and flawless flavor to the pint is icing on the cake. On Second Scoop also raved over this pint, and labeled it their favorite mint ice cream. I personally am not the biggest fan of mint, but I could eat this pint again without hesitation it was so good. If i was a mint fan this would be an easy A.
