Chocolate Shoppe Peanut Butter Cup
After getting the recommendation from On Second Scoop (nick) to order some of these pints off Ice Cream Source. Being a Peanut Butter Junkie there was no doubt in my mind that I would dig right into the PB Cup and see what CS had to offer as far as quality, mix-ins, and taste goes. Before I even placed my order I have never heard of this company that comes out of Wisconsin, but I was soon to find out this was a very wise investment.
Peanut Butter Cup is labeled as "Smooth chocolate ice cream brimming with mouthwatering peanut butter ripples and rich peanut butter cups." In the past a lot of chocolate bases are not always up to par lets look at B&J for example. Jeni's seems to be the king, and Graeters is pretty damn good to boot. I have had some successful runs with Talenti (for a chocolate base in a gelato), and have not seem to find a good one out of something like Breyers, Blue Bunny, Blue Bell which I all found to be somewhat mediocre. Based off the description, mix-ins, and the rave from Nick @ OSS (On Second Scoop) i had high hopes!.
Upon lifting the lid you see a very smooth chocolate as labeled on the pint, no signs of any peanut butter ripples, and no peanut butter cups as well. We all know how ice cream is with mix-ins and usually as you dig deeper you strike gold. The same could be said with a swirl, and how it may amplify as you go down the pint. After taking a bite my eyebrow rose. I was struck with a delciious chocolate base that was very rich in flavor and bold with a strong rich chocolate aftertaste. Not only that I got a full sized mini peanut butter cup, and a chunk of peanut butter in a single spoonful!
As I continued to work my way down the pint I nearly got a dozen mini peanut butter cups, and i was eating globs of peanut butter. This started to remind me of PB Pie from HD but with added peanut butter cup mix-ins and a dense/rich chocolate base. There are no words to describe this if you love chocolate or love peanut butter. This is easily one of my favorite pints that is PB related. Think PB World from B&J but with added peanut butter cups. You have a creamy, dense, rich milk chocolate base with tons of complimenting peanut butter cups, and chunks of peanut butter. Think about spooning peanut butter out of a jar, mixing a bag of reese peanut butter cups, and a chocolate base a notch below Jein's and you have Chocolate Shoppe Peanut Butter Cup Ice Cream.
