Steve's Banana Pudding Review
After my first experience with Sunday Morning, then Salty Caramel I have found Steve's to slowly be taking over as a premium brand that does not get enough recognition. I had 3 coupons for free pints and the second one I am going to conquer is going to be Banana Pudding based off the fantastic reviews and high praise.
Banana Pudding is labeled as " banana ice cream swirled with banana pudding and a vanilla wafer crust crumble." Now just picking up the pint you can see the banana swirls throughout the pint that glazed the sides of the container, and upon lifting the lid I also saw a nice huge vanilla wafer crust that really left me wanting to dig right into this pint. The reviews have been nothing but spectacular from the Ice Cream Informant himself and many others, so I had high hopes before I picked up a spoon and started to work my way into this pint.
This pint racks in at 280 kcals a serving, and after being spoiled on Banana-Peel-N from Wegmans that was going to be very hard to top. After I lifted the lid on this pint, saw a very dense banana looking base and clear pieces of a vanilla wafer I began to think I may find something that will resemble my last banana experience.
Upon first bite I was blown away by the banana ice cream. There is 0 artificial flavoring, and it truly tastes like a mashed up banana in an ice cream form with a luscious after taste that leaves you wanting to dig right back into the pint. Second bite I saw a small glimpse of the banana pudding swirl and dug into that and found myself in absolute heaven. The Vanilla Wafer piece was my 3rd bite and what surprised me is how much crunch and texture the mix-in had. Compared to other brands that have rock hard mix-ins, this truly reminded me of a graham cracker like consistency with the crunch and texture that complimented this pint well.
With a fantastic and dense banana flavored base, a very thick and creamy banana pudding swirl, and wafer pieces that grow in size and number as you continue down the pint this is a banana fan's dream come true. The only reason why i would rank the banana Peel-N above this is not because of the base, but because of the peanut butter cup mix-ins that i found complimented a banana base compared to a vanilla wafer. I have had 0 complaints with this pint from the base, the swirl and to the crunchy vanilla wafers that give this a great texture and compliment. Steve's really has nailed the Salty Caramel and Banana Pudding. I am starting to think their swirls are overcoming Turkey Hill as far as taste and texture go because in every single Pint I have had they continue to get bigger and better.
