Trader Joes Speculoos Cookie Butter Ice Cream Review:
Seeing I do not live anywhere near a Trader Joe's and the closest one to me is a bit over 2-3 hours away I had to pack a cooler for the venture. Since I was out of town in Columbus to finally get my hands on this Cookie Butter Ice Cream from Trader Joes!
Upon getting the quart of ice cream you will soon pop the top to see a dense looking vanilla base ice cream with lots of little brown specks (Cookie Butter). The description right off the bat matches exactly what you see in the product " a vanilla based ice cream with swirls of Speculoos cookie butter."
Upon first bite you are instantly hit with a very strong and prominent vanilla base. The vanilla base is so heavy that when you take another bite or so and get a small chunk or speck of cookie butter it seems secondary in flavoring and taste. Do not get me wrong the vanilla is fantastic but the cookie butter seems to be not as strong as if you took it from the jar.
As you dig down the quart (which I separated into two pints) you start to notice that the pieces and bits of cookie butter continue to amplify in size and flavor as they are denser. Sooner or later they turn into smaller globs instead of specs and resemble a true swirl which starts to amplify the cookie butter taste and balance between the strong vanilla base. For an ice cream trader joes did a good job on trying to implement the cookie butter to a great vanilla base
. What I would really love is if they plan to make a cocoa cookie swirl in the future into ice cream like they have the nut butter that would be epic! For this to get an A maybe some chunks of a Speculoos cookie bar chunked up or a stronger cookie butter taste/ratio
Score: B
