Steve's Sunday Morning
Steve’s is a brand that I do not have access to in my area due to having a smaller Whole Foods and therefore they do not carry the brand .When I was out of town and saw this flavor and all the rave it got in a lot of reviews I decided to pick it up and give it a whirl myself.
Sunday Morning is “Buttered Maple Syrup Ice Cream with Crispy Waffle Pieces” Right away you know this is going to be unique because it is not often you have a butter maple syrup as the base for an ice cream which is very hard to come across. After lifting the pint lid that is exactly what you see a nice plain base and a nice glob of maple syrup building right at the top of the pint. The Crispy Waffle pieces were not to be seen, but that would soon change after a bite or two.
Even before I dug into my first bite I was overwhelmed by the amount of syrup glaze around the outside of the pint (since they are clear) and I also saw brown chunks which resembled waffle pieces. The base is absolutely thick, which reminded me of having custard at how thick this ice cream truly was. The base is a very butter rich (which is not my favorite) but it was very unique which really gave my taste buds a much different perception from having lots of cookies and cream, peanut buter, or chocolate/vanilla base ice creams. The aftertaste of the maple syrup is what really does this pint in, basically taking a bottle and squirting it on almost every single bite due to the massive amount of globs you can find in the pint (which resemble the size of the mix-ins in HD Peanut butter Pie).
The best way to describe this pint is taking a base of butter and melting it, throwing together a glaze of syrup, and then putting it on top of a waffle and letting it melt (but solidified to a frozen ice cream). Basically the syrup resembles a swirl it is so thick and massive throughout the pint it starts to dominate in the presence of the base as you continue to manage through the pint . The key feature is the waffle pieces. They aren’t rock hard, but give it a nice crispy compliment to the buttery maple syrup base which is a perfect breakfast combination that many would die for.
Nice warm waffles with butter glazed on top and syrup running off the sides but found in a frozen ice cream dessert. The chunks of the waffle pieces can either be large or be little chunks, so they vary in size throughout the pint. If you are a breakfast lover for waffles, syrup and butter, then you need to look no further this is something you have to invest in.
