Graeters Caramel Truffle Gelato:
After getting to sample all the new gelato flavors at the Arnold Classic in March, This one and the Hazlenut really struck my taste buds as the two best on the lineup, so I had to save the best for last, but now that they are available in grocery stores I finally have access to picking this flavor up and had to give it a whirl after having just a spoon at a Graeters Shop in Columbus Ohio.

Upon picking up the lid you can see the smooth light brown/yellow caramel surface with large chunks of truffle pieces that are embedded into the base of the pint. The overall taste of the base is very unique and very good for a gelato. While this is on the softer side, its overall richness/creaminess in a caramel flavor shines. This is very close to the richness of a SSC (Sea Salt Caramel) gelato, I would also state that compared to the 2nd Street Kopper Kettle Caramel this is softer/creamier (due to being a gelato) but does not have the overall density of flavor that 2nd street does pack.

Upon first bite of the base and then getting to scoop up a few truffles the truffles are as expected absolutely divine in taste, melt in your mouth, and are packed with a great chocolate taste. If you know Graeters they do not short change you when it comes to mix-ins or the size of the mix-ins. The truffles are complete truffles, not shavings, or halved truffles but nearly you are getting one or two truffles in every single spoonful you take from the pint. You get the great texture of the truffles and combination of the good caramel base which gives it a great 1-2 compliment punch in flavoring.

Graeter's did a fantastic job on this Caramel Truffle and IMO this is the best off their Gelato line. The hazlenut was good but lacked a true taste, the Caramel was very good for the caloric amount, and is what you would expect from the taste department, and of course the amount of mix-ins will never seem to fail you when it comes to graeters. Combine the good base (not great) with abudant mix-ins, not to mention how soft and melt in the mouth they are and you get yourself a quality pint of gelato. If you enjoy Gelato's, and you enjoy a lot of mix-ins especially truffles, with a good caramel base this is a no brainer. Do not even think twice go to your grocery store and dig into this right away. While it does not have the distinct and bold taste from 2nd street, if you are a Talenti Sea Salt Caramel Fan this will be right up your alley.
