Ben & Jerry's Minter Wonderland
Ben & Jerry's Minter Wonderland is labeled as "Dark Chocolate Mint ice Cream with Marshmallow Swirls & Chocolate Cookie Swirls." As B&J Fans you have seen both of these swirls used in numerous pints over the years. The Dark Chocolate Mint ice cream is brand new to the scene. Chocolate is not B&J's forte when it comes to their base ice cream. Let us see if the limited edition flavor is a worthy contender to the previous Dark Chocolate Peppermint Crunch
The dark chocolate base of the ice cream is bold and delicious. One bite in and the flavor reminded me of a Hershey special dark chocolate bar. The mint is all aftertaste as the density of the chocolate dominates your taste buds. Right away the flavoring of the base ice cream is much improved compared to their milk chocolate by a landslide. Since the mint was not overpowering, this appealed to me and made the ice cream enjoyable.
Next up are the mix-ins and as you have read in my previous reviews, Ben & Jerry's does not skimp on the marshmallow swirl. As it ribbons on the surface it soon enlarges as you work your way down the pint. The overall taste of the marshmallow is luscious and rich. The cookie swirl found in Milk & Cookies and Gimmie S'more is much larger then what I had in Minter Wonderland. The swirl is overshadowed by the daunting marshmallow inclusion. You pick up small cookie pieces throughout the experience, but not enough to truly get the full experience of what it can provide.
Ben & Jerry's breaks down a thin mint cookie in their winter flavor Minter Wonderland. The only downfall is the cookie swirl shoulder be larger and more consistent. The cookie swirl highlights other pints on their line, but Ben & Jerry's struggles to find a balance when including multiple swirls. While this is a good seasonal flavor I still would rank Dark Chocolate Peppermint Crunch over this one.
