Handel's Chocolate Raspberry Truffle
Handel's Chocolate Raspberry Truffle is labeled as "Dark chocolate ice cream, ripples of raspberry, and milk chocolate truffle chunks". This is a very unique flavor since it is a top seller. This was also my brothers wife's favorite flavor when she use to work at a Handel's shop during his high school years. Given how popular it is, i wanted to see first hand how it stacks among Handel's top tier flavors.
The dark chocoalte ice cream is bold and packs a punch. The dark chocoalte flavor brings a strong flavor that surpasses what you would find in a normal grocery pint. With how dense the cocoa is in this flavor you get no bitter aftertaste. Handel's did a great job masking any bitterness associated with a high cocoa content. This does not surpass the all time best OG Jeni's dark chocolate, but it is the closest thing I have had to it.
What sets this pint off is the raspberry ripple. Handel's can either give you a sliver for a swirl, or provide Salt & Straw like puddles throughout the pint. The raspberry flavor is made in house and brings a tart, rich, and explosion of raspberry in each and every bite. Complimenting the swirl are milk chocolate truffles that bind well with the dark chocoalte base. Providing a secondary chocolate element gives this flavor a Chocolate Therapy Ben & Jerry's vibe. The thickness of the truffles are large, and remind you of Graeter's milk chocolate chips.
When I weighed this pint and it was 500g in density I knew the mix-ins were going to be strong. Large raspberry swirls, plentiful chocolate truffles, and a superb base makes for a great experience. After scooping this pint my eyebrow rose since I am not a major fruit fan. The amount of chocolate and the sweetness of the swirl set this flavor ablaze.
