Ben & Jerry’s Caramel Chocolate Cheesecake Truffles
Caramel Chocolate Cheesecake Truffles is labeled as “Caramel cheesecake ice cream, with graham
cracker covered cheesecake truffles, and chocolate cookie swirls.” This is one of the 3 new limited edition B&J Flavors that have been released along side their low calorie ice creams.
Ben & Jerry’s has never been known to have a strong cheesecake base. Cheesecake brownie was easily
one of the biggest swing and misses I have had. B & J's has blended it with Strawberry (Strawberry
Cheesecake), Pumpkin (Pumpkin Cheesecake), and included it in the core series (Cookies & Cream
Cheesecake Core), which did help increase the flavor to an extent. Caramel is one of Ben & Jerry’s better
base flavors, and with that made a delicious pairing. The lusciousness of the cheesecake base, and the
purity of the caramel components complement each other to provide a tasty pairing.
The chocolate cookie swirl is what you would expect if you ever scooped Milk & Cookies. The cookie
flavoring brings a crunchy oreo texture that is mixed throughout the pint. B & J's is hit or miss with the
consistency of their swirls. At times I felt like the swirl fell short and thinned out during the experience.
The graham covered cheesecake truffles I had higher hopes for. The cheesecake truffles lacked richness
and tasted like a bland cream cheese. The graham cracker aspect was dull and did not pack enough
punch as I expected. While this was a unique unrefined mix-in it still needs tinkered to improve both
aspects.
Overall this one sounded unique on paper, but needs to be touched up. The base and swirl both
were good, but the mix-in is what held this back from being great. Despite the stab at a new
truffle there needs to be some fine tuning to raise the grade on this pint.
