Clementine's Bourbon Kentucky Pie
Clementine's Bourbon Kentucky Pie is labeled as "Bourbon vanilla ice cream, with chunks of scratch made Kentucky Pie (Pecan and Chocolate)" . As many of you know from reading my reviews I am not a drinker. I have had a half dozen or so pints including booze that have been fantastic. I did have another "naughty" flavor from Clementine's in the past being Maple Bourbon. I am expecting the Bourbon to be similar in this pint with a matching base but a different mix-in.
The density, creaminess, and thickness resembles that of custard. The vanilla base is a very strong vanilla bean flavor. Vanilla bean is not a common vanilla on the market, usually companies product vanilla's that are so bland and boring. Clementine's brings a luscious and sweet aftertaste that has you hooked on the first bite. The bourbon adds a nice aftertaste. Similar to Graeter's Bourbon, Jeni's Rumball, and B&J's Salted Caramel Brownie Ale the hint of booze is there as an aftertaste. It is not the dominant portion of the pint which is a huge plus for me. The extra kick was nice and complimented the vanilla base just right.
The chunks of scratch made Kentucky Pie are divine. Clementines puts a small garnish of their mix-ins on top, and then disperses the rest throughout the pint. The only problem is some pints do not have a good consistency of mix-ins. The two pieces on top was about all I had during this experience which was a bummer. The pecan pie is rich as you can taste the buttery undertone of them being freshly baked. The thickness of the mix-ins provide a graham cracker base that have huge chunks of pecans. The best part is how the balance of brown sugar, molasses, and chocolate elements seep through on your taste buds. The pairing with the vanilla base was a genius idea as it worked perfect.
Besides only getting very little mix-ins this was a fantastic pecan pie ice cream. There have only been a two others I have had (Little G's and Salt & Straw). Clementine's quality is right on par with these companies. Being a guy who is not the biggest pecan pie fan I would re-visit this one in the future, but it would be down my list of priorities.
