Ample Hills Harry & Eigel’s Marbled & Malted
Ample Hills Harry & Eigel’s Marbled & Malted is labeled as "Chocolate malted ice cream with pieces of Junior’s marbled cheesecake and chocolate crushed malt balls.". This is a new limited edition flavor that replaced Hell's Kitchen Sink from 2016. This is a new flavor that is made for the brand new shop in Dekalb market. Lets see if this is worthy of replacing Hell's Kitchen Sink as a new exclusive from Ample Hills!
The chocolate malt base is very good. The milk chocolate flavoring is nearly identical to what is found in "The View" except the maltiness replaces the marshmallow. Malt is sugar that adds a toasty flavor, and it has the added benefit of preventing iciness in ice cream and creating a smooth, creamy texture. The flavor gives me a vibe of eating robin egg's from easter. The maltiness aftertaste pairs well with the chocolate to resemble the base of Easter Egg Hunt from Little G's. Very well done Ample Hills!
Junior marbled Cheesecake pieces were no joke in this pint. As you can see the size of them are massive. Some pieces I had were over an inch thick, but there was one downside. The pieces did come out lacking in density of flavor. While the size was nice, the quality of them was not a marbled cheesecake. There were hints of chocolate and vanilla, but so subtle to really recognize them The malt balls I had a very hard time finding in this pint as the cheesecake chunks were the star of the show.
I enjoyed this pint much more then Hells Kitchen Sink in 2016. The base was absolutely spectacular, and this had the perfect amount of malt added in the aftertaste. Not once was the chocolate overpowered, which is why I enjoyed it so much. The cheesecake pieces were massive, but needed a bit more flavor to make this a top tier Ample Hills offering. With the malt balls nearly missing it was hard to truly judge them.
