Little G's Ice Cream Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup
Little G's Ice Cream Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup is labeled as "chocolate ice cream + peanut butter caramel swirl + peanut butter cups". If you do not know Little G's ice cream is made by a 17 year old girl named Grace out of Boston who has really taken the ice cream market by surprise. While this flavor may look very simple on paper all you need is high quality ingredients and a premium base to really make it pop. Lets see how this racks up against Chocolate PB Cup from B&J, and also the other PB Cup flavors out there (Chocolate Shoppe, Talenti) etc..
Cracking into my first pint of Little G's Ice Cream I was not disappointing in the chocolate ice cream base. I have had some incredible chocolate bases over the years (Jeni's and Salt & Straw come to mind as my top 2) and this is good but does not take the throne. Jeni's before the listeria craze was hands down the GOAT (Greatest of All Time) with how dense, premium, and bold their chocolate flavor was. What I like about Little G's is that is has a 60/40 mix of dark and milk chocolate combined together. You really get the best of both worlds. Base alone this was good, a step up from a typical Ben & Jerry's or mainstream pint you would buy at the grocery store.
The Peanut Butter Caramel Swirl in Little G's Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup is the hit or miss element for so many people who have reviewed this before me. Just looking at my clear pint you can see the swirls all over the bottom and sides of the pint. As I went through my pint I did not get into the swirl until I got a few spoonfuls into the experience. What really surprised me was how many peanut butter cups were in my pint. Each bite is loaded with thick chunks of reese cups to the point of getting more mix-ins then actual ice cream. For those who love mix-ins to a large degree Little G's ice cream will be paradise. The chunks of reese cups are not small by any means, they are almost full size or halved reese cups once you breach the surface of the ice cream. Since the peanut butter cups are so dominant it shadows the swirl which is still present, but nothing like a thick turkey hill swirl. You get the elements of the peanut butter flavor, but what shines it has a fudge and dense peanut butter flavor.
Overall if you love peanut butter and chocolate you need to look no further for a great Chocolate Peanut Butter flavor on the market. Hands down a huge step up from Talenti and Ben & Jerry's. I cannot compare this to Graeter's buckeye due to the fact they throw in small chunks of cookie dough which makes it different in a slight degree. The quality was what I have read in reviews and hoped for. Give me a a stronger swirl that was overpowered by the base and peanut butter cup mix-ins. The density of the swirl and the flavor it brought was very good which left me wanting more of it, but the Peanut butter cup amount was surmounting!
