Ample Hills No Sleep Til Pumpkin
Ample Hills No Sleep Til Pumpkin is labeled as "Coffee ice cream with pieces of house made pumpkin ooey gooey butter cake". After having "The Eye Opener" from Ample Hills I was very pleased with the coffee ice cream base. The only thing that I do not enjoy much is how fast the ice cream does melt. It seems like some flavors temper very quickly like Salted Crack Caramel. What I am looking forward to is the Ooey Gooey Pumpkin Buttercake. Since Ooey Gooey Buttercake was rich, chewy, and moist in texture this should be a great compliment to an awesome base.
Right away the coffee ice cream is a lighter/blonde roast in flavor. While it is not the darkest and richest coffee I am fine with that because I do not prefer darker coffee. The creaminess of the dense premium ice cream, and the flavor of the coffee go hand in hand really well. The flavoring is a step up from the NO Cafe Au Lait pint I had quite a while back as a new Orleans cold brew. Just picture that tasting a bit stronger and carrying a similar flavor vibe. Ample Hills did a great job on the coffee base which surpasses Ben & Jerry's as well in coffee coffee buzz buzz. Hands down one of my favorite coffee ice creams to date.
The Ooey Gooey Butter Cake is exactly as you would expect but with a hint of added pumpkin. Full of flavor, packed with a very sweet aftertaste, and very bold in richness. The texture of the mix-ins are very soft, moist, and provide an incredible chewy aspect. While this may be a very simple addition to the superb coffee base Ample Hills finds a way to make this a hit. I would prefer the pumpkin to have more spice associated with it, but beggars cannot be choosers. You get just a slight aftertaste of pumpkin with minimal nutmeg, clove, and ginger.
Combine a coffee lover ice cream base with basic bitch tendencies (pumpkin) ooey gooey butter cake and its a phenomenal combination. Ample Hills is very good with the consistency of the mix-ins from top to bottom, and the ice cream is super premium. This flavor does temper quick like the other coffee Flavor (Eye Opener) which gives it a slight downgrade. The amount of ooey gooey pumpkin buttercake was loaded from top to bottom like the light side. Nearly every single bite is packed with thick, chewy, and delicious pumpkin flavored cake pieces. Truly a very good pint especially for those who love coffee, pumpkin, and buttercake. While AH did not make a lot of pumpkin offerings, I heard the Pumpkin Cheesecake was their best pumpkin flavor to date. Hopefully next year.
