Steve's Speculoos Cookie Butter
This will be my first experience tasting a vegan option ice cream dessert. Steve's also includes that this pint is also Dairy Free, GMO Free, & Egg Free, which is a first for me as well. Steve's coconut cream base is also different from regular premium ice cream (density). Picking up a few scoops it was very thick in nature almost similar to custard. The coconut base was also very smooth and creamy from first bite to last, but with that said how is the base? How are the mix-ins and where does this stand on the cookie butter lineup?
Steve's labeled this pint as "Coconut Cream Base blended with Speculoos Cookie Butter and Speculoos Cookies". Right away picking up my first bite it tasted like a dense cookie butter right out of Trader Joe's you can buy in jars. Instead of the extra creamy texture of the nut butter you get at Trader Joe's, the density of the coconut cream base enhances the flavor for the better. It is a very hard and creamy texture, and it lasts a lot longer than soft serve or regular ice cream which will melt away after a span of 10 minutes. The cookie butter flavoring is spread perfectly into the base, and if you are a cookie butter fan you will be continually sticking your spoon back for another bite.
The mix-ins are of speculoos cookies which are not available at Trader Joe's (Cookie Butter Cookies) between two macaroon cookies with a thin layer of cookie butter. My experience was somewhat similar to Trader Joe's version of the cookie butter ice cream where there are chunks of cookies scattered throughout the pint. The cookies are crunchy yet soft, nothing that will break your teeth, but not soft enough like the SnickerDoodles which melt in your mouth. I will say the amount of mix-ins are greater in this offering than the Trader Joe's quart, or the Ben & Jerry's Speculoos Cookie Core which is a major benefit for me.
Overall if you are a Speculoos fan, this is a must pick up. Steve's offers a very unique coconut cream base that is very bold in flavor and dense in texture. The Egg, Dairy, and Vegan free option really made me skeptical at first, but I have no doubts this is my favorite Cookie Butter offering I have tried in ice cream form. The Cookies are in a larger abundance compared to Ben & Jerry's and the Trader Joe's version (small specs), and offer a nice ginger/cinnamon aftertaste. From start to finish I would not hesitate to re-scoop this pint in the future. If you have never tried Cookie butter, or the cookie butter cookies from Trader Joe's do yourself a favor and get your hands on some immediately.
