Gelato Fiasco Raspberry Truffle Sorbetto
Gelato Fiasco Raspberry Truffle Sorbetto is labeled as "Intense raspberry with house-made chocolate truffles". After speaking to Nick from On Second Scoop and Eric from Powered by Ice cream to placing a Gelato Fiasco Order this was one of the highly recommended offerings to pick up. The only major fruit flavor I loved was Black Raspberry Chocolate Chip from Graeters. I was hoping with the raspberry theme and truffles addition this would be right up there as a solid offering.
First of all the base is out of this world. Imagine yourself taking fresh raspberry's and pulsing them together in your kitchen to make a jam, then freeze them into a gelato and that is what you get. The flavoring is spot on like a real raspberry that you would eat right from a grocery store. There is no better way to put it than Gelato Fiasco nailed the raspberry flavoring when it comes to the base for their gelato. The Intense Raspberry is no joke, if you want a pure raspberry gelato this is it.
Last but not least is the house-made chocolate truffles. I was kind of skeptical about these, but after reading Nick's Review on OSS (On Second Scoop) it looked almost like Talenti invaded the Gelato Fiasco warehouse and threw in a ton of mix-ins like the amount found in Sea Salt Caramel. At first the truffles resemble massive chocolate chunks/chips that are similar to those found in graeter's ice cream. They do have a bit of a thick bite to them in every single chocolate chunk you run across, nothing that will easily melt in your mouth. The chocolate chunks though do have a very solid milk chocolate taste just like you would find eating a hershey chocolate bar with a long lasting aftertaste.
The Sorbetto is very light in texture, much lighter than some of the other Gelato Fiasco offerings I have had (Blueberry, S'mores, PB, Cookie Therapy). The texture seems airy, very light, and literally melts shortly after you take your spoon to the base. The Chocolate Truffles were more along the lines of thick chocolate chunks. I came across at least a dozen of them throughout the gelato from top to bottom. A fantastic raspberry base with some thick chocolate chunks with great flavoring for only 170 calories a serving is a winner in my book.
