Talenti Tiramisu Gelato
Talenti has produced a few new flavors in 2015 with Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, Hazelnut Chocolate Chip, Salted peanut Caramel, Oatmeal Raisin Cookie, Coffee Toffee, Raspberry Cheesecake, and recently the target exclusive Coconut Chocolate Chip. I have had a few of these so far (Coffee Toffee, and Salted Peanut Caramel) and both were not too bad with SPC far superior than coffee toffee. The reviews on these have been hit or miss for some flavors, but I am eager to see how this stacks vs HD Tiramisu.
Upon lifting the lid I am presented with a nice looking dulce de leche swirl and a very fine gelato base. Talenti describes this pint as "Our Tiramisu gelato elaborates upon its Italian foundation with hints of coffee, Marsala wine, Amaretto, mascarpone cheese and a dulce de leche ribbon." Of course we can see the ribbon is present and the coffee/tiramisu looking base is there. Lets see if this lives up to the hype and which Tiramisu reigns supreme.
The First bite was good, the base is a great mix of coffee, mascarpone, and a faint tiramisu aftertaste. Talenti somehow combined the three elements into one bold tasting base. After I dug right into the dulce de leche ribbon the swirl reminds me of a luscious caramel sauce you would pick up at a grocery store. Very rich in flavor and leaves a very lingering aftertaste that wants you to dig right back into the pint for more.
Besides a good base, and a slight swirl this pint really does not have much more to offer. I personally enjoyed HD better because the flavoring was denser and the ladyfinger pieces included added an incredible mix-in. Talenti's coffee base is mild, but allows the mascarpone to shine through. The cheesiness isn’t overpowering and blends well with the coffee flavor. Combined with the hints of cocoa, you’re getting a good replica of a Tiramisu Gelato. Add in the ribbon of dulce de leche and that is Talenti Tiramisu in a nutshell.
