Graeter's Bourbon Pecan Chocolate Chip
Graeter's Bourbon Pecan Chocolate Chip is labeled as "Kentucky Bourbon Flavored Ice Cream, Buttery Roasted salty pecan halves, and our signature dark chocolate chips." I first got to sample this flavor in Columbus when it was revealed early in the year around March. At first bite it is bold, different, but at the same time delicious. At the time I did not get any chocolate chips or pecan halves in my sample, so I was eager to give this the full experience.
Upon popping the lid you are presented with a vanilla looking base and plenty of mix-ins present. Significant amount of chocolate chips and full like pecan's are present from first glance. The unique base is present but not overpowering in every bite. Even being one who is not a fan of alcohol or drinks on occasion I did not mind it one bit. Being this was so different than chocolate, vanilla, coffee or what you usually have in ice cream it grows on you quickly and is very enjoyable. The best feature when it comes to Graeter's though is their mix-ins.
The buttery, roasted, and salted pecans are massive and plentiful. With a nice bourbon base and a salty & buttery compliment this is a nice feature as a mix-in. As i plowed through the pint I went through a dozen if not upward to 18 halved pecans. The Chocolate Chip pieces are a signature feature of Graeter's and never disappoint. Sometimes you will get flecks and then you will hit the gold mine of thick chocolate chips. Those chocolate chips nearly a 1/2" to 1" in size through the middle of the pint which is always a nice surprise.
Overall this is a good pint (Cookies and Cream, Black Raspberry, and Buckeye Blitz being my top 3 with Salted Caramel Fudge Brownie coming in 4th). A slight downgrade because I am not the biggest fan of alcohol but the uniqueness won back some points. If you are a nut lover (pecans), and enjoy diversity with a bourbon base this may strike you. Graeter's will always be known for their massive and delicious chocolate chips. You can always count on Graeter’s for sticking to what has made them famous….great bases with huge mix ins.
