Dairy Queen Salted Caramel Truffle Blizzard
Going into this blizzard I had high hopes due to the consistent feedback of this being one of the best DQ has had to offer. S'mores, their seasonal around this time of the year, was possibly the best I have had. With that said would this Salted Caramel Truffle Blizzard stack up to it?
The Salted Caramel Truffle blizzard is labeled as "Salted Caramel Truffles, this Blizzard treat also packs buttery toffee pieces, rich cocoa fudge, and choco chunks, all blended with creamy vanilla soft serve." With that description it sort of reminded me to Talenti's Sea Salt caramel with cocoa fudge + Toffee pieces but with a soft serve vanilla base.
First off usually soft serve is on the thin side, and when the lady mixed everything together and held it upside down for a prolonged period of time without it dripping a single drop. Due to the amount of mix-ins and offerings in this pint that is probably a major factor regarding the enhanced thickness this blizzard does offer. The base reminds me of a Chocolate Frosty from Wendy's with the combination of cocoa fudge and chocolate chunks that are added into the mix.
Now to the mix-ins in this blizzard. The Salted caramel truffles, and toffee pieces are in abundance. Think about Sea Salt Caramel (my reference earlier) from Talenti and how they pack that gelato with a minefield of truffles. This was no exception. This was exactly a truffle loaded pint (nearly 20+) with the addition of toffee, and a bunch of chocolate fudge chunks. This was mix-in heaven. Being a mix-in junkie this hit the spot.
The Sea Salt Caramel's have a nice chocolate shell and are filled with a liquid caramel that melt in your mouth. The Toffee pieces were buttery, thick, and crunchy that provided a great crispy texture to the blizzard. Pair that with chocolate fudge chunks and it was like a diced up brownie mixed into the vanilla soft serve. A Very unique combination dairy queen put together to make one of their best blizzards in my opinion. While I do not think this tops the density and flavor the S'mores blizzard packed, it sure gave it a run for its money. While this is still limited I would suggest picking it up.
