Private Select Caramel Hazelnut Fudge Truffle
The last of my Private Select Haul from around Halloween when I was in Columbus. After piling through Huckleberry Pie. English Caramel Toffee, Moose Tracks, and other offerings I have found for the price its a good scoop. I got each pint for 1.79$ which is not a Jeni's break the bank amount, but still for something that offers a decent base and some solid mix-ins it is a brand to really take note on and give a shot.
The last one I had from my stock up was Caramel Hazelnut Fudge Truffle which is Caramel, Hazelnut, and Fudge Truffles folded into a Chocolate Ganache Ice Cream. Wow is that a mouthful, not to mention I have high expectations saving this one for last due to the amount of mix-ins they state and a Chocolate Ganache ice Cream base which I have never had before. This pint clocks in around 230 calories per serving with 11g Fat, 30g of Carbs, and 3g of Protein per 1/2 cup serving.
Upon popping the pint you see a nice glazed chocolate base and small swirls of Caramel which are folded like a glaze right at the top in a big ribbon. Right away I know I am in for a treat and have high hopes of what is underneath. As I dug into my first bite I noticed that the Chocolate Ganache Ice Cream is more like a true melt chocolate with a nice rich aftertaste, more along the lines of a sweet and luscious milk chocolate. I also dug right into the caramel which was folded right into the ice cream and man was this a rich, thick, and flavorful compliment. Similar to Salted Caramel Core with how it provides a nice sweet and salty compliment to a very semi-sweet chocolate base made for a killer one two punch.
As I dug deeper into the pint this is where things start to unravel. Not only are you getting a good chocolate that has a semi-sweet flavoring and has a vicious long lasting after taste which each bite. The ribbons of caramel sometimes become globs, while they amplify this was hands down the number one mix in this pint offered. The Hazelnut and Fudge Truffles reminded me of Sea Salt Caramel from Talenti. While these truffles were not as abundant like hitting a gold mine in that gelato, this still had a good offering with around 10-15 small little truffles that had a nice soft outside fudge flavoring with a hazelnut/caramel filled center. These were dense and these were soft little truffles. Which was nice because you will run along ice creams that give you rock hard mix-ins and are tooth breaking. Overall this was a good pint considering the amount of calories per serving. The Chocolate Ganache base was a bit different but appealing, the amount of mix-ins were there and the caramel hands down took the cake in this pint. No complains for a 1.79$ price tag.
