Dairy Queen Apple Pie Blizzard
Dairy Queen moving towards the fall has released their September Seasonal Flavor "Apple Pie". After having Talenti's Apple and having a great score/review of it, I wanted to venture into DQ to test the limits and see if this can surpass the ever so popular S'mores blizzard which is my favorite. Not to mention I had a coupon for a free blizzard, so I had to put it to use.
Dairy Queen's Apple Pie Blizzard contains: " Delicious Cinnamon Apple, with cinnamon pie pieces blended with creamy vanilla soft serve, and garnished with whipped topping & cinnamon sprinkles."
Upon getting the blizzard and watching the employee making it, she was not scared to add a few extra scoops of Caramel Apple Filling, the cinnamon pie pieces are scooped into the blizzard and look like crushed up graham crackers, the whip cream is added last with the sprinkles being the finishing touch. The blizzard does melt fast being a soft serve, but lets see how good this is!
Upon First bite i was overwhelmed with the cinnamon garnish, small chunks from the apple pie filling, and small chunks of the cinnamon pie pieces that is like eating cinnamon toast crunch but smaller in size. Hands down a great complimenting and mixing blizzard, and something if you are an apple pie fan should greatly consider. Even as you move down the blizzard the amount of mix-ins with apple pie and cinnamon pie pieces amplify. It is just hard to note with all the whip cream, cinnamon sprinkles and melting soft serve on the outside.
Overall the blizzard is great, do I consider it their best seasonal or flavor of the month? Sadly no as the S'mores is going to be very hard to trump, but this is up there without a doubt. What is lackluster is the basic vanilla soft serve base which is a mediocre vanilla, but the amount of mix-ins from the Apple Pie Filling (which is very generous), the great tasting cinnamon pie pieces which reminded me of eating cinnamon toast crunch, and a great blend of cinnamon and whip cream to top off the blizzard make it a nice treat. Apple Pie fans do not hesitate to grab this, it is worth a shot, and its not very caloric dense either. A full medium does not even eclipse 800 calories. Do I consider this better than Talenti Apple Pie? They are pretty similar in grade due to Talenti's base being stronger, but the mix-ins in this blizzard are superior with every single bite.
Grade: B+
