Handel's Praline Pecan
Upon getting this Pint from Pittsburgh I had high hopes because I had a very good experience from HD "Praline and Cream" Which is very similar in nature. Praline Pecan from what I can see is a rich vanilla base, pecan pieces, and a small caramel swirl. The combination of caramel, pecans and a good vanilla base seem to be a lethal combo, and will this rival what HD had brought to the table before?
Upon breaking open the lid I noticed that small bits and pieces of pecan pieces were noted and there was a tint to the vanilla base with small hints of a caramel swirl which were present. The one thing that got to me after taking my first bite and digging into a pecan was they were not rock hard, but very brittle on top of the great compliment from the swirl.
As I dug into a few more bites I noticed that the caramel swirl has a rich/dense creaminess to it on top of a very solid vanilla base. It gives a small hint of a dulce de leche in essence with how powerful it really is. Just like in the Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough base the vanilla really shines, and is honestly neck and neck with the HD Vanilla base which IMO is one of the better ones out there (beats B&J and Graeters).
Overall this pint is great, is it awesome? I don't think I can give it an A+ or an A, but it really starts to really crack into that grade. The base is solid, the pecan pieces are brittle, abundant, but lack size (not flake like, but not even halved pecans) and the caramel swirl really adds an amazing compliment to the pecans. The Swirl is not as dense as I would expected based off what I found in the Chocolate Raspberry Truffle, or a swirl found in Turkey Hill Pumpkin which was one of the best swirls I have had. A top caramel swirl would be something found in Kopper Kettle Caramel (2nd Street). Deserving of a B grade without a doubt, but I give it a B+ due to the amount of mix-ins, solid base, and complimenting swirl.
Grade: B+
Found: West Mifflin, PA (Handel's)
