Caffe Panna Nocciola Buns
CaffePanna's goal is to bring that same welcoming spirit and all-day accessibility to the heart of New York City, with an emphasis on delicious ice cream that marries elements of both Italian and American traditions.
Nocciola Buns is labeled as "Piemontese Hazelnut ice cream with toffee crunchies, sweet potato bun swirl made with our favorite breakfast good from Millers & Makers"
The Hazelnut ice cream is absolutely fantastic. Caffe Panna found a way to take a common nut based flavor into a frozen dessert. Hazelnut is deeply nutty and has a lingering buttery taste in the backend. The base is creamy, super-premium, and has a sweet but balanced elegant rich flavor due to the purity of the ingredients.
Millers and Makers makes a moist, soft, and chewy cinnamon roll inclusion that was the ideal complement to this ice cream. While hazelnuts don't pack a ton of flavor on their own the collaboration with Millers is a fantastic duo. The butter undertone leads right into the toffee crunchies. They are shattered and scattered throughout the experience in a very consistent manner. The bite these provide enhance the texture of the very soft shortbread pieces to give you the best of both worlds. The sweet potato bun swirl is yet another first time experience for myself. The sweet potato was no where to be found unfortunately, which I was really looking forward to.
This one had potential to be the sleeper of the pack. I had no idea what to expect due to no sweet potato swirl. The base and and shortbread inclusion were fantastic. Low and behold when Caffe Panna does a collaboration they do their homework on a quality mix-in.
