Caffe Panna Pumpkin Ranger
CaffePanna's goal is to bring that same welcoming spirit and all-day accessibility to the heart of New York City, with an emphasis on delicious ice cream that marries elements of both Italian and American traditions.
Pumpkin Ranger is labeled as "Pumpkin ice cream, housemade chocolate fudge chunks, salted caramel, and graham crunch."
The pumpkin base provides a dense pumpkin puree flavor that also has an subtle cinnamon, nutmeg, and graham cracker backend taste. The amazing thing is how well everything compliments each other. With the multitude of pumpkin spices you would expect something to take over, but each and every aspect meshes together. The ice cream is so thick and dense you would think it resembles custard.
The housemade chocolate fudge chunks are almost brownie batter in flavor. The chunks are decent in size, but are very consistent from top to bottom. The graham crunch is a Caffe Panna special. The combination of butter, sugar, graham crackers and salt is all that is needed to make this masterpiece. The extra hint of salt from the graham crunch amplifies the salted caramel to make it stand out even more. The salted caramel is lingering around this pint, the salty and thick caramel flavor is noted, but overpowered by the fudge, pumpkin, and graham inclusions.
I am a basic B at heart, and this is one of the better pumpkin pints I have ever scooped. With turning up the amount of salted caramel and pumpkin spices in this pint I think it has room to be top-tier among all the pumpkin offerings that have been released on the ice cream market.
