Ow Wow Cow Cashew Caramel
Ow Wow Cow Cashew Caramel is listed as "Caramel ice cream with a caramel swirl and halved cashews." I personally am not a huge fan of nuts in my ice cream, but a friend gave me this recommendation as a flavor to try. I do enjoy great caramel flavors and swirls, so this is one that did catch my eye on Ow Wow Cow's menu. Seeing they thrive off execution and quality this was worth a shot since caramel is one of my all-time favorite swirls.
The caramel ice cream is fantastic. From the very first bite you can taste the richness of the caramel and the buttery richness in the backend. The creamy and dense base ice cream is highlighted with a hint of honey to enhance the overall taste of the flavor. Not only does this pop on your taste buds, but it leaves a long-lasting aftertaste which is incredibly enjoyable. The owner has stated they use honey to give the ice cream a better consistency, which is not too premium, but gives it enough oomph to bring out a different experience.
Moving onto the mix-ins the salted caramel swirl is great, salty, and buttery. When you get pockets of the swirl in conjunction with the base you can see how well they mesh together. I noticed that the majority of the swirl was on the top and stated to sliver on the way down. Some companies have it backwards, but none the less it was consistent just like the cashews. The cashews are huge and chunked throughout the quart in each and every bite. What I admire is how they stay very crunchy, and did not turn into rocks like many companies have failed to do so. The nutty flavors of the cashews suit the caramel base and swirl to bring everything together.
At first when I went to Ow Wow Cow this would be my least favorite flavor, but it turned out to be my favorite. With how well the base and swirls were executed left me satisfied. I am not the biggest fan of nuts in my ice cream, but in this situation they work well. The honey inclusion for the caramel base is genius, and other companies should take note!
