CaffePanna Gingerbread
Caffè Panna is inspired by the cafes and gelato shops of Rome, which are a ubiquitous part of daily life in the eternal city and serve everyone from Bambini to nonnas. CaffePanna's goal is to bring that same welcoming spirit and all-day accessibility to the heart of New York City, with an emphasis on delicious ice cream that marries elements of both Italian and American traditions. Every Day CaffePanna offers five staple flavors, and five chosen by the kitchen at the particular moment. The menu is always varying, which makes the shop incredibly unique and a must-stop in New York City.
Gingerbread is labeled as "Gingerbread Cookie infused Ice Cream with Amano Chocolate Shards" The gingerbread cookie ice cream is something I have never experienced before. CaffePanna uses a magnificent, wintry blend of warm spice and sweet sugar on this flavor. What’s amazing is how full-bodied the ginger is throughout the base. Maybe it’s the immersion of real ginger cookie pieces that lend it by proximity, but wow this was absolutely nailed. With each bite ginger, cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon are sweetened with sugary molasses on the backend.
The Amano Chocolate Shards is a collaboration CaffePanna does. Amano Chocolate is found in Chuao on the Caribbean coast of Venezuela. This little village has been producing some of the world's finest cocoa for over 400 years. The richness and bitterness of the dark chocolate are noted, but the amount of flavor it produces is surreal. Even frozen in ice cream it starts to melt in your mouth the second it hits your taste buds.
I am a huge fan of cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, and anything associated with gingerbread. Just like how I enjoy all those spices in conjunction with pumpkin. The Amano Chocolate works incredibly well with the base to make a killer one-two punch. Another simple yet well-executed pint from CaffePanna.
